    HIGHLAND MILLS-The following classes will be offered at the Highland Mills branch of the Woodbury Public Library. Registration begins Dec. 20. A $10 deposit is required at registration for each class: • Introduction to computer basics: An overview of computer hardware, software, mouse skills and Window elements for beginners. Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 9-11:30 a.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 6:30-9 p.m. • Computer basics II -The next steps: Topics will include memory, storage devices, file organization, virus protection. Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 6:30-9 p.m. and Thursday, March 10, from 9-11:30 a.m. •Introduction to Internet basics: Discussion of Web basics, searching and navigation skills and evaluating Internet resources. Students must be mouse-proficient. Tuesday, Jan. 11, from 9-11:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 6:30-9 p.m. • Finding it Online: How to find almost anything on the Internet. Students must be proficient with the mouse. Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 6:30-9 p.m. and Thursday, March 17, from 9 a.m. to noon. • E-mail (lecture): The Who, What, Where, Why and When of electronic mail. Tuesday, Jan. 18, from 9-11:30 a.m. and Thursday, March 31, 9-11:30 a.m. • Introduction to Microsoft Word: How to create, edit, format, print and save simple documents. Two-sessions. Students MUST be computer literate and mouse proficient. Wednesdays, Jan. 5 and 12, from 6:30-9 p.m.; Thursdays, Feb. 3 and 10, from 9-11:30 a.m.; and Wednesdays, March 22 and 29, from 6:30-9 p.m. • Intermediate Word: Beyond the basics incluedes custom formatting, footnotes, graphics, etc. Students must be computer literate and mouse-proficient. Thursday, Feb. 17, from 9 a.m to noon, and Wednesday, March 30, from 6-9 p.m. • Introduction to Microsoft Excel: How to create, format, edit and manage simple spreadsheets. Basic formulas are also covered. Two-sessions. Students must be computer literate and mouse-proficient. Wednesdays, Jan. 19 and 26, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Tuesdays, March 1 and 8, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. • The Power of Powerpoint: Creating simple, effective presentations. Students must be computer literate and mouse proficient. Thursday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon, and Wednesday, March 23, from 6-9 p.m. • Introduction to Microsoft Publisher: Focuses on the basic elements of Publisher to create postcards, calendars, flyers, and more. Two sessions. Students must be computer literate and mouse proficient. Tuesdays, Feb. 1 and 8, from 9 .m. to noon, and Wednesdays, March 2 and 9, from 6-9 p.m. •Make it yourself cards and labels: Combines elements of MS Publisher, Word and Excel to create personalized greeting cards and mailing labels. Students must be computer literate and mouse proficient. (Knowledge of Publisher, Word or Excel is helpful.) Tuesdays, Feb, 15 and 22, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., and Wednesday, March 16, from 6-9 p.m. • How to get there from here - Online travel planning (lecture): Whether you want to fly or drive, vacation in luxury or make a quick get-away, this class will introduce you to the many online resources available. Thursday, March 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. •Exploring online resources at the library: An overview of the wide variety of online news, literature, health, and student databases available through the Library's Web site. Tuesday, Jan. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon, and Thursday, Marc 24, from 9 a.m. to noon.
