Monroe — They’re back. The Friends of the Monroe Free Library hosted a Saturday morning breakfast Open House to revitalize the organization. More than 25 potential members turned out to find about the volunteer group, which is dedicated to influencing the future development of the library. Participants were greeted by Monroe Free Library board members Denise Harris, Gary Skeels, Bill Bollenbach, Pat Cary, Rose Ann Pomares and Barbara Zerner, who spearheaded the membership drive. They munched on a variety of breakfast treats while discussing the benefits of joining the Friends, which organizes fundraising events and stimulates library use, through special programs for all ages. Among the issues facing the library is the need for additional space; where that building would be and how much it would cost are the specifics library officials and staff continue to pursue. “The board of the Monroe Free Library would like to thank the volunteers who worked so hard to make this Open House a success,” said board president Denise Harris. “We’d also like to thank Bagel World, whose delicious donations were so greatly enjoyed, and Pride of the Hudson, who donated cruise tickets for the raffle.” The Friends will meet again at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the library. This will be an orientation meeting for community members who are interested in meeting neighbors with similar interests and concerns, while making a difference in the community. Those interested in joining can pick up a membership form at the library at 44 Millpond Parkway in Monroe. For more information, call 783-4411.
