Fourth annual Golf Outing dedicated to the memory of Bernie Carey

MONROE - The Fourth Annual Community Foundation of Monroe & Woodbury Golf Outing is now being dedicated to the memory of Bernie Carey, a staunch contributor to community improvement projects, and a dedicated leader. The community is invited to participate in this leading golf outing at the Golf Club at Mansion Ridge, on Monday, June 14, and the V.F.W. Post 8858 golf outing at the Monroe Country Club. Bernie Carey a lifelong resident, passed away at the age of 54 this past February. Bernie was an active volunteer for the community and was responsible for organizing and constructing the lights on the high school football field. He was also responsible for teaching safety around electricity at the community health and safety fairs. Bernie was a patriot who served his Country during Viet Nam and was decorated for his heroism. He was an active member of V.F.W. Post 8858, he was a volunteer fireman with Harriman Engine Company #1, the Town of Woodbury Fire District and the American Legion. "I am proud to say that Bernie was my friend. He shared my love for this community, and always showed up when there was a cal for help. His legacy lives on, through the work of so many important groups, including the Community Foundation. We are proud to hold the June 14 golf outing in honor of his contributions and his exemplary character", commented Foundation, Ray Heuchling and best friend George Smith of V.F.W. Post 8858. The golf outing at Mansion Ridge provides golf, a luncheon, refreshments, goodie bag and an awards dinner. The day begins at 11 a.m. with registration and lunch. The shotgun start is scheduled for 12:30. The day is a full and fun day, with some great golf, food, friends and hardly anyone leaves without a raffle prize. The cost for the entire day is $175 per golfer; single and foursome golfers are welcome. The money raised will go back to help the children and the community of Monroe and Woodbury. The Community Foundation was formed in 2000 by a group of concerned citizens who were able to raise $100,000 to provide lighting fo the ball fields in the Monroe-Woodbury area. The Foundation has held successful Health and Safety Fairs, and raised over $20,00 for "The Park for All Children" in Monroe, a unique, state-of-the-art playground facility offering recreation to children of varying ages and physical abilities.
