HIGHLAND MILLS-Fall has arrived at the Woodbury Public Library with a number of new programs for all ages. Registration is now underway for story times for infants through pre-kindergarteners. Drop-in story times will be available for two- and three-year-olds, a first-time "on my own" Circle Time for three-year-olds and sessions for four-year-olds and pre-kindergarten five-year-olds. Registration forms can be filled out at either the Highland Mills or Central Valley branch of the Library. Story times will begin the week of Sept. 26. Other programs include: • Babygarten is a program for infants and toddlers and their adults. Children and their caregivers will share nursery rhymes, songs and books but also get a chance to make fun projects that demonstrate the child's developmental milestones - usually a homemade toy or a baby book item. Many projects and activities will emphasize the importance of reading to little ones. Parents also will learn how to do this most effectively. Insight about infant development and parenting will also be shared. Babygarten will meet on Wednesday mornings, with two developmental age groups. • For school-age children there will be afterschool programs for grades kindergarten through eighth grade. The "fun and games" programs begin Saturday, Oct. 11, for kindergarten and first grade and include funny stories and a new game to make each week. Grades 2-4 will have "series fun" beginning Oct. 12 with a Junie B. Jones theme. A "Kids Talk" Book Club for grades 4-8 will include refreshments and activities The first session will be on Oct. 6 with a Newbery Honor book, Al Capone Does My Shirts. Serious themes as well as much hilarity distinguish this book about a 12-year old who adjusts to living on Alcatraz, where his father is a prison guard, and learns to deal with his autistic sister and the other kids on the island. The second session will be a Nov. 3 discussion of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire in preparation for the movie release. Free theater tickets will be raffled off as door prizes. Registration for afterschool programs can be done over the phone by calling 928-2114 or at either branch of the library.
