Environmental impact statements are going online

MIDDLETOWN —A new law requires that draft and final environmental impact statements be placed on the Internet. Statewide News Network Inc. has created a new Web site, NYS-EIS.com, a private enterprise designed to be a clearinghouse for postings of the statements statewide. It is divided into New York State Department of Environmental Conservation regions. All projects in the state that require the filing of these statements will be online. There is no charge for the general public to access the site, but there is a $25-per-week charge to the lead agency or developer to have their statements posted.
