Donnery is ‘a force to be reckoned with'

To the editor: As a county legislator for the last four years, I am taking this opportunity to endorse my friend and colleague, Roxanne Donnery of the 14th Legislative District. Working with Roxanne in the legislature, I have witnessed how this woman doggedly pursues the resolution of issues important to the towns she represents. She was a leader in the fight that successfully forced the county to take a position against the Kiryas Joel pipeline. Because of her efforts and the county’s successful lawsuit, the inadequately addressed issues such as the treatment of wastewater, unsustainable growth and wetlands must be revisited. Another issue is that of Woodbury’s inequitable share of the county sales tax. Meeting after meeting, Roxanne argued that Woodbury had become the county’s “cash cow” with regard to sales tax. I was present at a committee meeting in 2004 when the county executive finally gave in and agreed to address Roxanne’s concern. All present laughed when she loudly said “get that on tape” as he said he would bring Woodbury’s plight to the next sales tax negotiations. Talk about perseverance. I can tell you from experience, Roxanne Donnery is a woman who represents you with courage, conviction and pride.
