MONROE — Brad Perlstein, D.D.S., F.A.G.D., recently acquired the Waterlase Dental Laser, after completing a certification course in the use of laser technology. Only three percent of dentists in the United States currently have this technology, which can be used in most phases of dental treatment. It can be used to treat tooth decay, surgical procedures, root canal therapy, and periodontal gum disease. It can also be used to treat canker sores and cold sores. It also reduces the need for anesthesia eliminating the need for injections for most procedures. Waterlase technology uses laser light to energize water molecules. The energized water molecules are able prepare the tooth and remove decay. Another benefit of dental laser technology is the minimal bleeding associated with surgical procedures, as well as accelerated healing and the reduction of postoperative pain Biolase Technologies of San Clemente, Calif., invented the hydrokinetic technology that makes it possible to use the laser on tooth and bone. The laser is designed to serve a dual purpose, with the ability to treat hard tissues such as tooth and bone, and soft tissues such as gums and skin. Perlstein graduated from New York University in 1984 and practices comprehensive dentistry in Monroe. He is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, a member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, Ninth District Dental Society, and the Southern Orange Dental Study Group.
