Democrats ‘have taken the high road'

To the editor: I’ve lived in the Monroe area for 15 years and have seen sweeping changes in our community. Where there used to be wooded and undeveloped vistas we now have big box stores and more traffic lights than I ever imagined. Just imagine the changes that the 30-plus-year resident can testify to. While development is unavoidable, the way it has been managed under Republic leadership has not improved the quality of life for Monroe residents. I urge readers who agree, to vote for the Democratic ticket - Vaccaro, Schwartz and Rios (Row B). We must change the management of the Town of Monroe before even more of the town is paved over. Instead of more strip malls, low-wage jobs and big housing developments, Alicia, Audra and John will put policies in place to promote the responsible development of our remaining light industrial zones. By attracting the right kinds of businesses, the town’s tax base will be stabilized while bringing in higher paying jobs. I’ve weighed the choices carefully and based on the advertising and direct mail I’ve received as well as the in-person contact I’ve had with candidates while they were knocking on doors and at events around town, Alicia, Audra and John are the only option. They listen. They have the temperament to hear all arguments, deliberate and then decisively act. They have run a positive campaign and have taken the high road, when they could have easily fallen to the level of their opponents. These are the kinds of people I want to represent me in town government. Please vote Row B on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Lorraine Loening Monroe
