'Decide for yourself what the truth is'
To the editor: We think it’s important for us all to know the facts not just what we are told to believe-but the truth. The truth is that the handwriting has been on the wall for years regarding where Monroe was heading. And, in our opinion, nothing much has been done to address it. As community advocates who have attended almost every town meeting for years, we can attest to the actions of this current government. While we have repeatedly asked for legal and sustainable changes to address the issues, we have been summarily ignored and at times mistreated. But we believe in holding our government accountable and that is why we have continued to push for solutions to these quality of life problems on behalf of all of us that live here in Monroe. That is what SaveMonroe is all about. For example, having an outdated pro-development density bonus in our town codes for decades and not addressing it is irresponsible governing. Taking nearly two years to go through a process’ to address something that should have been dealt with years ago is incompetent governing. Passing one virtually meaningless law to address minimum lot sizes is ineffective governing. Changing zoning boundaries for one property to grant one builder more room to build more townhouses is pandering, especially when it cost the community tax-positive industrial land in the process. These are just some of the issues that we have spoken out about, informed the public on, and brought focus to. This is what SaveMonroe is all about. Do we have a plan of action to address these problems? Absolutely. We always have and anyone who has followed SaveMonroe’s activities knows this is true. Just one visit to the SaveMonroe Web site reaffirms that. It is a fact that SaveMonroe has repeatedly and consistently been asking for restorative actions for years and if elected we pledge to make them a reality. We encourage each of you to visit the Web site at www.savemonroe.org and learn more about our plan for Monroe. Or feel free to e-mail us at savemonroenow@yahoo.com with your questions. Learn who we are, what we believe in and what we want to do for you and Monroe. Decide for yourself what the truth is. Thank you for your continued support.
