Coming to a theater near Monroe ... a movie theater?
MONROE - Once all the legal issues are resolved in the case of the unfinished movie theatre, construction could begin by the end of April, according to property owner Norman Adie, president of Screen Arts in New York City. Adie said Thursday that he has been in communication with Monroe Village Mayor Joseph Mancuso and “I have informed him that it is my intention to move forward and finished construction of the Mill Pond Parkway theatre.” It is an eyesore sitting there, he acknowledged, but said it is not his company’s fault. Adie said the design of the theatre, which includes stadium seating, is good and the whole project just took more time than expected. The old Monroe Theatre closed in the early 1990s. Construction on the new movie house started in February 2003 when the old theatre was razed. The steel girders went up, but then construction stopped. Adie said he could not comment on the legal issues but he said he was very optimistic that it won’t drag on much longer than it already has. Trustee and mayoral candidate Jeff Peiffer mentioned the theater’s expected construction start during Monday night’s candidates forum sponsored by SaveMonroe, much to the surprise of many, including fellow trustees and mayoral candidate John Karl lll.
