College notes
Dean’s list Jennifer Ortiz of Monroe was named to the president’s list at LIM College for the spring 2011 semester. To qualify, students must earn a grade point average between 3.80 and 3.99. LIM College is an independent, private college located in New York City dedicated to the study of business and fashion. Awards, honors, programs Adam Susskind of Monroe resident was inducted into Ithaca College’s Oracle Honor Society in November. First-year students who maintain a GPA that puts them in the top 10 percent of all students in their school throughout their first full academic year are invited into the society. Susskind is a writing major in the college’s School of Humanities and Sciences. Emese Rejto of Monroe, an undergraduate student enrolled in the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Binghamton University, was recently awarded a Judith and Seymour Ehrenberg Endowed Scholarship Grant. Katherine Ford of Highland Mills performed in Susquehanna University’s fall musical, “Funny Girl,” presented by the Department of Theatre earlier this month. Fanny Brice’s career took her from comedienne to vaudeville star. In The Ziegfeld Follies, in Hollywood films and on the radio, she was one of the most celebrated entertainers of her time. This show is her story. Ford, a junior majoring in theatre production at Susquehanna, was the production’s master fly man. A 2009 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, she is the daughter of Pamela and Bruce Ford. Elise Nicole Van Gelder of Monroe, the daughter of Gregg S. Van Gelder and Kathleen A. McGuckin-Van Gelder, is among the 765 students who entered Colgate University this fall as a member of the Class of 2015. The class, selected from an applicant pool of almost 7,900 students from 49 states, 121 countries, and the District of Columbia, is one of the strongest and most diverse in Colgate’s history. Van Gelder is a graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School.
