Graduations Tara Miller of Monroe graduated from the University at Albany with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and a minor in education. She is daughter of Marc and Linda Miller. Matthew Murray of Monroe has graduated from the University at Albany with a bachelor of arts degree with double major in history and political science. He is the son of Joanne Murray. Kimberly M. Garen of Monroe received a master of business administration on May 15 from Philadelphia University. Nicole Vasti of Monroe has graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and a degree in secondary education with a concentration in mathematics. She is a 2007 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School. Kristy Doherty of Monroe graduated cum laude from Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I., with a bachelor of science degree in business administration - accounting. Daniel Lasalle of Monroe graduated magna cum laude from Rice University in Houston, Texas. Lasalle received a bachelor of arts degree in cognitive sciences. Arthur Wollocko of Monroe graduated summa cum laude from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. Kelli Gassert of Monroe was among over 900 students from Providence College who received undergraduate degrees during the college’s ninety-third commencement exercises held May 15. Gassert received a bachelor’s degree in biology, cum laude. The following students were awarded their graduate degrees from SUNY New Paltz on May 20 in a ceremony that also recognized degrees granted in August and December 2010: Rhona Castellano, a resident of Harriman, a MSED in childhood education. Malaika Feeley of Tuxedo Park, masters in family nurse practitioner. Dean’s list Emma Case of Monroe has been named to the dean’s lost for the spring 2011 semester at Northeastern University in Boston. To qualify, students must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.5 or greater out of a possible 4.0 and carry no single grade lower than a C- during the course of their college career. Kristina King of Highland Mills has been named to the dean’s list for the second semester of the 2010-11 academic year at Clarion University in Pennsylvania. Dean’s list students must have earned a 3.5 quality point average or higher (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester. Damien L. Wassell of Monroe was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester at Alfred University. Students must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average to qualify. A graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, Wassell is the son of Daniel and Beth Wassell of Monroe. He is a senior in the Inamori School of Engineering, where he is studying electrical engineering. The following area residents have been named to the dean’s list at Providence College: Frank Gassert of Monroe, a member of the class of 2012. Kelli Gassert of Monroe, a member of the class of 2011. To qualify, students must achieve at least a 3.55 grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits. Megan Reuter of Harriman, a junior behavioral science major at York College of Pennsylvania, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester. To be eligible, a student must be registered for at least 12 academic credit hours and earn a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher. Honors and awards University of Scranton student Joseph A. Lofstedt of Monroe recently completed the Scranton Emerging Leaders II program, a yearlong series of sessions for students dedicated to building leadership skills. Throughout the year, participants plan and execute projects dedicated to advocacy and change. Lofstedt is a junior in the Panuska College of Professional Studies at the Jesuit university. Thomas Vitanza of Chester, who will be graduating from Monroe-Woodbury High school in June, has been awarded the CDR William J. Mellish Scholarship by the Association of the United States Navy. This award is a national competition and is based on excellence in academics, extracurricular activities and community service. In the fall, Vitanza will be attending Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., majoring in mechanical engineering. He will also be affiliating with the NROTC unit. Upon graduation from Old Dominion, he intends to pursue a career as a U.S. Navy pilot.
