Dean’s list Paul Schumann of Highland Mills is completing his junior year in the honors program at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill. To be eligible for dean’s list, a student must obtain a quality point average of 3.5 or above for the previous semester. Paul is in the five-year combined BS/MBA accounting degree program, with CPA License Qualifying coursework. He is president of the STAC Business Club and active player on the Men’s Tennis team. Paul received the 2011 Spartan Leadership Award for Men’s Tennis. He is a 2011 inductee in three Honor Societies: Alpha Chi for overall academic excellence which includes being in the top 10 percent of the class; Chi Alpha Sigma for scholar athletes who obtain a quality point average of 3.4 or above; and Delta Mu Delta for business administration. Paul will attend STAC’s summer program at Oxford University in England. Michelle Nicastro of Monroe has been named to the Florida State University dean’s list for fall 2010 and has been accepted into the Florida State University Honors Program. Acceptance into the honors program is by invitation only, and based on an evaluation of the student’s entire record, including strength of academic curriculum. Michelle has also been inducted into Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, the nation’s oldest and largest honor society for first-year students in institutions of higher learning. In addition, Michelle has also accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) - the honor society for high achieving first and second year students. NSCS is also a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation’s only interdisciplinary honors organization for first and second year college students. Membership is by invitation only and is based on grade point average and class standing. Michelle is the daughter of Kenneth and Linda Nicastro of Monroe and is a graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School, Class of 2010. She is currently studying psychology at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. The following students were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester at the University at Albany: Benjamin Kleiman of Harriman. Michael Terrence Lifvergren of Harriman. Steven Joseph Manganelli of Harriman. Daryl John Subran of Harriman. Ashley Marie Zenner of Harriman. Awards Steven Manganelli, a junior at the University at Albany, was awarded the President’s Award for Leadership in March. He received the Justice Award which honors a student or organization whose commitment to the principles of fairness and equity has helped to foster justice at the university. Athletic achievements Thomas McLoughlin, a 2010 graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School and a member of the dive team at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa., was chosen to “dive” for the “grand-opening” of the university’s ground-breaking pool ceremony. Thomas is studying criminal justice. Brian Daly and Paul Patrikis, both of Monroe, are members of the SUNY Delhi Men’s Lacrosse Team. Brian is a recreation and sports management major. Paul is a electrical construction and controls major.
