Caranante wins $1,000 Kelly Lynch Memorial Scholarship

The eighth annual $1,000 Kelly Lynch Memorial Scholarship was recently presented by Monroe American Legion Post 488 to Guiliana Caranante, a senior at Monroe-Woodbury High School. The scholarship honors the memory of Kelly Lynch, who passed away after an accident. Her parents both Post 488 members decided a scholarship would be an appropriate way to honor her memory. Caranante placed 19th in the M-W Class of 2011 and is involved in many school/community projects and organizations. She will attend Loyola University in Maryland, majoring in psychology. Gathering for the check presentation are Post 488 First Vice Command Martin Currid, left, Commander Douglas Kloiber, Caranante, her mother Maria Caranante and Eileen Lynch, mother of Kelly Lynch.
