Cab ride from NYC ends in arrest for stealing ice cream, exposure
MONROE-A New York City man who took a cab ride Sunday from West 24th Street in Manhatten to Lake Street in Monroe was arrested after he was found sitting with his private parts exposed inside the Lickety Split ice cream parlor. The staff at Lickety Split had called police to report a disorderly man inside the business who had ordered, eaten, but then refused to pay for, two ice cream splits. Then, when Peter Fink 63, of 420 W. 24th St. in Manhatten was taken into custody, police found a television remote control inside one of his pockets. The remote, police said, had been stolen from the ice cream store. Meanwhile, police interviewed the New York City cab driver, who was parked outside Lickety Split. He told police that he had picked up Fink on West 24th, where Fink requested a ride to Monroe. When they pulled into town, however, the cab driver said Fink refused to pay the $120 cab fare for what would be about a 50-mile trip. Fink was charged with two counts of theft of services and one count each of petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, all misdemeanors. He also was charged with exposure of a person, a violation. He was sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $750 bail. "We still don't know why he chose to come to Monroe," said Det. James Frankild, "but we are looking into his ties with the community."
