    Harriman firm wins engineering award Harriman — C.V. Associates NY of Harriman was recently awarded the Tappan Zee Award — the project of the year award —from the Lower Hudson Valley Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers. This award is given to a major and complex civil engineering project in the lower Hudson Valley. The “Woodbury Toll Barrier Project” was recognized for this award. Construction value of this project was $83 million. There were four consulting engineering firms who provided construction inspection services on this project. C.V. Associates was one of the consultants and provided three construction inspectors over a period of two and half years. Construction was completed in 2010 and vehicles can use the E-Z pass lane while traveling at 65 mph on the I-87 main line. Verticon receives sales award MONROE — The Monroe-based Verticon, Ltd., a local authorized Ceco Building Systems builder, was recently recognized for achieving $2 million in cumulative sales in and $250,000 in annual sales in 2010 at the recent Ceco 2011 National Business Meeting in Tampa, Fla. Ceco Building Systems, a leading division of NCI Building Systems, designs and fabricates energy-efficient, “function-oriented” metal buildings. Ceco is well-known for its “nonstandard is standard” design philosophy, allowing each project to be designed and manufactured to meet specific space and function requirements. Group hosts program Saturday on saving County Government Center Monroe - The group Change Orange will host a program on the future of the Orange County Government Center on Saturday, June 11, from 2 to 5 p.m. at new South Orange Family YMCA, 45 Gilbert Street Extension in Monroe. According to a press release from the group, the program will look to make the case” for saving a great deal of taxpayers’ money and preserving an important example of modern architecture.” Speakers will be: Dr. Richard W. Hull, professor of history at New York University and Town of Warwick Municipal Historian. Dr. Harvey Berg, Professor Emeritus of Architecture, Fulbright Scholar and senior alumni of A. Hennessy Architects of Newburgh. Robert A. Fromaget, member of Change Orange with extensive experience in organizational consulting, budget development and management, business planning and project management. County Executive Edward Diana presented plans last year to tear down the government center and the courtrooms next store and replace them with two buildings, large enough to include county operations now housed elsewhere. The estimated cost was $114.4 million. The plan is on hold. The presentations Saturday will include recent videos, handouts, a Question and Answer segment, and an opportunity for public comment. Orange County Partnership launches new Web site Goshen — The Orange County Partnership has launched of its new Web site. www.ocpartnership.org, designed to be an outlet where potential customers would be linked to the products and services it offers. Officials said the Web site is an example of how Orange County “is embracing a business-friendly, client-driven approach to economic development.” They added the Web site “provides immediate access to critical business intelligence that decision makers need to make an investment decision,” including an advanced mapping function and comprehensive data, including county demographics, labor market, industry data and local business contacts. Golf tourney to benefit Elant Goshen — The Goshen-based Elant Foundation’s 4th annual Elant Golf Open is planned for Thursday, July 14 at the Dutchess Golf and Country Club in Poughkeepsie. The event is open to the public and sponsored by Med-World Pharmacy, an Omnicare Company. Proceeds will be directed to this year’s fundraising campaign Bridging Generations, Making Connections, designed to improve resources for residents to communicate with loved ones far away, as well as software to enhance the cognition of residents suffering with dementia. Last year, the golf outing raised nearly $50,000. This year’s special guest is Fred W. Schaeffer, immediate past chairman of the Walkway over the Hudson Board of Directors. An attorney with offices in Poughkeepsie and Pleasant Valley, he is an avid photographer and bicyclist. He is largely responsible for making the Walkway over the Hudson (www.walkway.org) open to the public, gathering support to convert the Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge, built in 1888, into what is now a park over the Hudson River and an international tourist destination. Educators’ pensions posted online ALBANY — More than 1,200 retired New York State school teachers and administrators are entitled to annual pensions of more than $100,000, according to pension data posted on www.SeeThroughNY.net, the government transparency Web site. The database from the New York State Teachers Retirement System (NYSTRS) includes name, benefit rate, retirement date and last known employer when available, for 136,644 people collecting pensions in 2010.
