Thomas Sullivan to receive community leadership award HIGHLAND MILLS — Highland Mills resident Thomas Sullivan, president of Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home in Monroe and owner of the William F. Hogan Funeral Home in Highland Falls, has been named a recipient of the SUNY Orange Foundation’s 2011 Leadership Awards to acknowledge his community leadership. Sullivan currently sits on the board of Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties and is on the board of directors of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he serves on the finance committee of his church, Sacred Heart in Monroe. He continues to serve as a firefighter for the Mombasha Fire Company. Sullivan is a past recipient of the Marion S. Murphy “Neighbors helping Neighbors” award from the United Way. Awards will also be presented to Orange County Trust Company (Leadership in Business) and Orange County Partnership (Leadership in Business). Additionally, Karen Miller, Class of 1971, will be given the Alumni Leadership Award. This year’s event marks the sixth year the college and its foundation have celebrated the achievements and contributions of local individuals, businesses and organizations. Museum Village to honor F. Edward Devitt in October Monroe — The Board of Directors of Museum Village will honor F. Edward Devitt at its benefit on Oct. 20 at the Falkirk Estate and Country Club in Central Valley. A lifelong resident of Montgomery, Devitt will be honored and recognized for his dedication and contributions to keeping the history of firefighting alive in Orange County. Funds raised at the benefit will go towards the restoration of the firehouse and firehouse exhibit at Museum Village. Devitt is the founder and president of the Orange County Firefighters Museum, Winding Hills Golf Course and Devitt Management. He is a National Congressional Delegate, a director of the New York Business Development Corporation, an emeritus board member of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, Walden Rotary Club and the Town of Montgomery’s Industrial Development Agency. Devitt is involved with the Orange County Partnership, the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, the Village of Montgomery Historical society, Orange County Foreign Trade Zone, Orange County Citizens Foundation and he is a member of the Stewart Airport Commission. He is also a life member of the Orange County Volunteer Fireman’s Association. Give blood and get a back pack Warwick - Community Blood Services is currently experiencing a shortage of volunteer donors at its New York donor centers. Summer is normally a critical time of year for blood donations because donors are away on vacation and there are no high school blood drives, and fewer community and business blood drives. To thank donors, the donor centers are offering two-tone side-sling backpacks from Tuesday, Aug. 2 to Thursday, Aug. 4. Realtor news MONROE — The Weichert Realtors Monroe office was recognized for outstanding performance in June. The office led the region for new home dollar volume, resales, resale listings and resale revenue units. The region is comprised of offices throughout Monroe, Westchester and Rockland counties. In addition Sales Associate Angelo Acierno was individually recognized for his industry success during June. Acierno led the region in resales and resale revenue units. Elant golf tournament raises $50,000 Goshen — The Elant Foundation’s recent fourth annual Elant Golf Open raised more than $50,000. The event’s proceeds will go toward enhancing Elant’s environments and incorporating technology resources for residents to communicate with loved ones far away, as well as purchasing software to enhance the cognition of residents suffering with dementia. The first place men’s team was made up of: Ronnie DeDios, Louie Delfierro, Rolly Olfina and Hector DeLeon. The first place mixed team was made up of: Steven Drobysh, Damiane Doyle, Danny Briggs and Phil Borko.
