Bah, Humbug to political correctness
To the editor: I’m not sure how, when or where this all got started, but I’m really getting upset with all this “political correctness” that has now invaded our lives. We now teach our children that it’s a mail-person and not a mailman. Out is “stewardess” and in with “flight attendant.” I can accept those. But Christmas? I cannot believe that our society is actually allowing Christmas to be a word of the past. When stores ban their employees from using the word “Christmas,” I think it’s time that people stand up and declare “P.C.” war. Winter break has replaced Christmas break and Spring break has replaced Easter vacation. I find it funny that only Christian holidays seem to be affected. While Roshashanna and Yom Kipper are still school holidays, I don’t see them being called anything but what they are. I still hear people saying “Happy Hanukkah” or “Happy Kwanza;” even the networks show these with station identification breaks, but Christmas has been replaced with a generic Happy Holidays. With all the battles to remove God from our schools and government, I don’t understand why we are now taking Christ out of Christmas. I think it’s time that as a society we worry less about offending a few atheists (they can have the other 364 days of the year) and say enough is enough. Take back Christmas, not just for Christians but for everyone of every faith. Our government is bowing down to activists who have such a small, insignificant amount of followers instead of the majority of our nation. So, this season I will be screaming Merry Christmas from the roof tops and I hope I’m not alone. So from our family to yours, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a very Happy Kwanza to all!
