To the editor: Because results matter, I am asking for your support for a third term in the Orange County Legislature, representing District 1 (Monroe-Woodbury. I was first appointed to the Legislature in November 1998 and was successful in a special election in 1999 and again in a regular election in 2001. On this Nov. 8, I ask the voters in the First Legislative District to allow me to serve for four more years. Because results come from “hard work,” I have worked hard to deliver critical outcomes for our district: 1. Founder and co-chair of the Southeast Orange County Traffic Task Force, an award-winning regional planning group with the purpose of promoting wise land use and effective traffic planning at the local level. (See Photo News article from Oct. 14 on page 34.) 2. With my colleagues on the task force, convinced Congresswoman Sue Kelly to earmark more than $8.5 million for traffic and transportation improvements in southeastern Orange County. 3. Since 1998 voted with the Orange County Legislature to reduce the county property tax rates by more than $1.10 per $1,000 of assessed value. 4. Voted to require stricter safety regulations and procedures at Indian Point. 5. Sponsored legislation to eliminate burial fees for veterans in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery. 6. Sponsored legislation for a grant fund of $10,000 to support Orange County veterans currently serving oversees and those transitioning home after doing their duty for our country. Because results come from “hard work,” I am currently the chairperson of the Legislature’s Human Services Committee with oversight for the Office of the Aging, Veterans Services Agency, Department of Social Services and Office of Employment and Training. I also am a member of the Health and Mental Health Committee, Personnel and Compensation Committee, Transportation Committee, Off -Track Betting Committee and the Electrical Licensing Law Committee. Because results matter, I ask you to allow me to continue with the work started on traffic and land use, Medicaid reform, improved meal services to the home-bound elderly and enhanced public safety of all residents in the County. Thank you. Please vote on Nov. 8. Sincerely, Michael Amo Orange County Legislator District #1
