A delicious time at Smith Clove Elementary's Multi-Cultural' night
Central Valley Smith Clove Elementary’s recent “Multi-Cultural Family Dinner Night” was a “delicious” time for the 90 families who took part in the school’s first global food fest. More than 200 people including students and their families, faculty, administrators and staff dined on homemade food prepared by school parents. All dishes represented the heritage of the children who attend Smith Clove. Some students even dressed in costumes that represented the country with which they had family/cultural ties. Countries represented included: India, Mexico, Ireland, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Pakistan, Slovakia, Hungary, China, England, Japan, Guatemala, Bangladesh, Italy, Poland and Israel as well as many more. Kindergartners and first-graders wrote their last names on stars, and using large maps, placed them on the country their family represented. That gave them a introductory world geography lesson as well. School officials were pleased with the evening as well as the level of family participation and hoped to make the event an annual one.
