MONROE - It was perfect weather last Friday night as the fireworks display in Monroe captivated thousands of people seeking a pyrotechnic display of color in the evening sky. Many gathered early in the evening, making picnic dinner plans with friends. Parents held the hands of small children and walked around the ponds, greeting friends and neighbors they had not seen in awhile. Children got creative and made necklaces and bracelets out of glow sticks sold by vendors on the closed Lake Street and Millpond Parkway roadways while eating ice cream and other treats. Promptly at 9:15 p.m., the sky lit up and Frisbees were set aside as people cheered at booming sounds of rockets in the air.
