Monroe Veteran’s Day ceremonies took place throughout the area, including at the old ambulance corps building in Monroe. Veterans representing the Harriman American Legion Mulligan-Eden Post 1573, the Monroe American Legion Post 488 and the Harriman VFW Post 8858 solemnly gathered to honoring military veterans and to also mark the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice which ended World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.
