St. Paul Lutheran Church celebrates 50-year anniversary

MONROE It was with great thanksgiving that the members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monroe celebrated their 50th anniversary on Sunday, April 22 with a special worship service.
The guest speaker was the Rev. Dr. David Benke, president of the Atlantic District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, with the Rev. Donald Lee, pastor of St. Paul, presiding.
After the service, a festive anniversary luncheon was held in Fellowship Hall. A letter was read from Carol Laesch, wife of the founding pastor, the Rev. Theodore Laesch.
The first church service was held exactly 50 years ago on Easter Sunday, April 22, 1952, at the Mombasha Firehouse, then located at 139 Stage Road in Monroe.
The present building on Still Road was dedicated in 1967. Many activities are planned for a year-long anniversary celebration.
