Michael Murphy Jr.
Michael Murphy Jr. of Washingtonville passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall. He was 77 and had been a resident of the area for nine years.
The son of Michael Murphy Sr. and Margaret Prentgast Murphy, he was born July 19, 1935, in New York City.
Michael was a retired building superintendent for Local 32 B-J in New York City.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean war, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and member and past president of the USS John Hood Association DD-655.
He was also a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Washingtonville and a 3rd Degree and lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Carney Council #4299 in Queens.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. O’Donnell Murphy of Washingtonville; sons Robert E. Murphy of Washingtonville and Timothy M. Murphy and his wife Megan of Randolph, N.J.; daughter Bridget A. Pineda and her husband Salvador of South Blooming Grove; brother John Murphy of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister Margaret Murphy of Queens; three grandchildren: Lauren, Mikayla and Ryan; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Murphy.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.
A funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at St. Mary’s Church, 42 Goshen Ave., Washingtonville.
Interment will follow in Orange County Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen.
