Maryellen Sherlock of Monroe passed away at home peacefully on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, surrounded by her loving husband and children after a brave three-year cancer battle. She was 58.
She remained selfless and strong for her family and friends even through her difficult final months.
Maryellen was born in Westmeath, Ireland, and was raised in Syosset, New York.
She was a 1981 graduate of St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in New York City and retired after an amazing 40-year career in nursing.
Maryellen was described by everyone who loved her as the strongest, most caring and generous person they knew.
She was an amazingly patient and supportive wife, mother and friend.
She was the best Nana to her two grandchildren whom she loved more than life itself.
She is survived by her husband and best friend of 36 years, John Sherlock; her children Colleen McCabe and her husband Conor of Monroe, Kelly Rambeau and her husband Ryan of Allenstown, N.H., Brendan Sherlock and his fiancee Brittany Krause of Orlando, Fla.; her grandchildren Breanne and Declan McCabe, her mother Helen Bell of St. Augustine, Fla.; and her brother Roy Bell and his wife Alison of South Orange, N.J.
She is preceded in death by her father, Leroy Bell.
Visitation services were held Sept. 19 at the Donovan Funeral Home in Goshen.
The funeral Mass was held at Sacred Heart Church in Monroe on Sept. 20, with Maryellen’s cousin, the Most Reverend Michael Boughton, officiating.
Burial services followed at St. Anastasia Cemetery in Harriman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Maryellen’s honor.
