Kenneth “Kenny” D. McGrady passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, at Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill.

He had been a resident at Sapphire Rehab and Nursing Facility in Goshen for about seven years.

Kenny was born on Aug. 23, 1956, at Toby Hospital in Wareham, Mass. He was the eldest child of William and Joan Kincaid McGrady.

With exception to the past few years, Kenny spent his entire life living in Tuxedo.

While still in school, Kenny was a member of the Junior Ambulance Squad, and continued on to become an EMT in the Tuxedo Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Kenny attended BOCES classes for cooking, which he enjoyed immensely. In 1975, Kenny graduated at the top of his BOCES class, and from Tuxedo High School.

Following high school, Kenny held various jobs, from Night Watchman at International Paper in Sterling Forest to Short Order Cook at Roy Rogers in New Jersey and later McDonald’s in Monroe. He remained at McDonald’s until health issues led to an early retirement.

Throughout his life, Kenny was an avid reader and history buff, especially World War II history. He was interested in photography and he was also a comic book collector, specifically the horror genre, and he loved watching horror and documentary movies.

Because of his great interest in horror movies, family members fondly called him “Uncle Boogeyman.”

While never married, Kenny loved children and was a big kid himself. He also loved animals, especially his sister’s cat Sebastian and her Australian Shepherd Kringle.

Kenny is survived by his sister Sandra “Sandy” McGrady of Tuxedo and his brothers David and his sister-in-law Karen McGrady of Southfields and Steven and his sister-in-law Debbie McGrady of Tuxedo. He is also survived by his six nephews: Matthew of Newburgh, Mark of North Carolina, Steven Jr. of Tuxedo, Adam of Goshen, Aaron of Monroe and Christopher of Highland Mills; as well as four great-nephews and four great-nieces.

Final arrangements will be made at the discretion of the family.

Donations may be made in Kenny’s honor to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) or to the Tuxedo Volunteer Ambulance Corps (www.tuxedoems.org).

Arrangements are by Smith, Seaman, and Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home (845 782-8185 or www.ssqfuneralhome.com).
