Joseph A. Romano, a longtime resident of Highland Mills, NY, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 7, 2017, at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 77 years old.
The son of Cristofaro and Silvia Conte Romano, he was born Sept. 6, 1939, in the Bronx.
Joseph was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam and a retired member of the Carpenter’s Union Local #157 out of Manhattan.
His handy work can be found from the hustle of New York City to the humble woods of Wurtsboro.
He was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church of Highland Mills and was the widower of his beloved Maria Lombardo Romano who passed away in 1996.
Joe was an incredible spirit who entered a room and lit it up. Loved by all that knew him, his incredible passion for his craft was only matched by his unconditional love for his extended family as well as his grandpups: Izabella Lola, Peanut and Caesar.
Survivors include his two daughters: Carla Romano and her husband George Ladlee of Highland Mills and Victoria Romano and her husband Christopher Ceriello of New Windsor, his two sons: Joseph Romano and his wife Angela of Wallkill and Anthony Romano and his wife Erika of Scotchtown; his sister Anna Ruello of Newark, Delaware; and his grandchildren: Michael, Megan, Nick, Andrew, Gianna, Chloe, Anthony, Austin and Sophia.
Joseph was predeceased by his brothers: Vincent and Louis Romano.
A funeral service was held April 12 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home in Monroe, officiated by the Rev. Michael F. Keane.
Interment followed in St. Anastasia Cemetery in Harriman.
