Jean Stickles Eikhof

Jean Stickles Eikhof, longtime resident of Monroe, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at the age of 94.
Born in New York City Children’s Hospital on July 10, 1923, the daughter of George Stickels and Elizabeth MacDonald Stickels, she spent most of her life living with Tom, her beloved husband of 65 years, during a time they referred to as Monroe’s Golden Years.
Jean was a long time active member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, where she served her church into her early 90’s.
During her lifetime Jean enjoyed the company of numerous family members and friends. Her kitchen quickly became a gathering place for many people. The teapot was never able to cool and her door was always open.
Jean was creative and extremely handy. She was a gifted seamstress as well as an amazing cook and baker. Jean was known as the “cookie lady” by the neighborhood children. Her comfort food dinners will surely be missed by the many people she would invite to share a meal.
Jean was predeceased by her husband R. Thomas Eikhof, who passed on January 30, 2011, her brothers George and Charles Stickels and sister Minerva Stickels, who died in infancy.
She is survived by her son Thomas Eikhof and wife Barbara Eikhof of Tomkins Cove, daughter Kathleen Eikhof Phillips and husband Honorable Francis D. Phillips, sister-in-law Dolores Mucha, sister-in-law Shirley Eikhof, niece Dawn and husband Jason Iorio, niece Laura Dolan and husband Stephen Dolan, and great nephew Edward Dolan. She also leaves behind many wonderful cousins, friends and neighbors, especially Linda Warbrick whom she referred to as her adoptive daughter.
Her family would like to thank Irena for the wonderful care she provided over the past several months as well as Dr. Ralph Neuhaus, Dr. Jack Dermigny and nurse Christine Spadafora for the excellent medical care, humor and understanding they provided when taking care of our mom.
Visitation was held Dec. 26 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home in Monroe. A Chapel Service was held Dec. 27 in the funeral home. Interment followed in Seamanville Cemetery in Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested donations be made to the Monroe United Methodist Church for the maintenance of the R. Thomas Eikhof Education Building, 47 Maple Ave., Monroe, NY 10950, or the Monroe Food Pantry (Community Emergency Center), 47 Maple Ave., Monroe, NY 10950.
