Jean R. Mongelli of Monroe, affectionately known as “Jenny Red,” passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. She was 94 and had been a longtime resident of Monroe.

Born in Manhattan to James Corona and Mary Calabrese, she grew up and worked in the garment industry for many years. Her life’s focus was her devotion to her family. She loved to laugh and found humor in the most mundane places. Her infectious trademark laugh was noted by laughing so hard that she would sometime lose her breath.

Jean loved Jesus and the teachings of many different saints. More importantly, she practiced her Catholic faith by never complaining about anything and always appreciating the generous gifts she was given by her creator. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church of Monroe and was a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court Margaret Mary.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years Joseph L. Mongelli.

Jean is survived by her devoted daughter Barbara Ann Ammons and her husband Tom of Monroe; sons Joseph A. Mongelli and his wife Catherine of Monroe, Louis Mongelli and his wife Fran of Newburgh and Robert Mongelli and his wife Joann of Washingtonville; and her sister Marie Sherwood of Ridgefield, Conn.

Each and every day Jean celebrated the joy of having 12 wonderful grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Ammons family would like to recognize the extraordinary care and kindness of Dr. Sal DeVincenzo. He is an exceptional medical doctor and compassionate human being.
