    James P. O’Connor of Chester passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Schervier Pavilion in Warwick. He was 85.

    Son of Thomas and Agnes Dionne O’Connor, he was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Hartford, Conn.

    James was a retired computer programmer with Key Bank of Chester. He was a member of the Chester Historical Society and a past member of the American Legion of Chester.

    James was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

    Survivors include his wife Gladys O’Connor at home; his daughters Barbara Avener and her husband William of Highland Mills and Linda DeFreitas and her husband Derek of Salisbury Mills; and his grandchildren Richard Avener of Howells and Emily Avener of Philadelphia, Pa.

    Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Chester Cemetery.
