James P. Malvey

    James P. Malvey of New Windsor, and formerly of Monroe, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 78 years old.

    The son of James H. Malvey and Julia (Lynch) Malvey, James was born on April 14, 1943, in Manhattan.

    James grew up in the Kingsbridge Section of the Bronx and was a star athlete in track and basketball for Bishop Dubois High School. Upon graduating high school, he met his loving bride Eleanor at New York University.

    Shortly after his new marriage, James became a member of the New York City Police Department and quickly rose up to the rank of Lieutenant. During his 30 year plus career, James received numerous department awards and recognitions and was the lead investigating supervisor in the “Happy Land Fire” arson investigation.

    His last assignment was the Commanding Officer of the 44th Detective Squad.

    James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor, and his children: James P. Malvey and his wife Dana of Manhasset, Stephen J. Malvey and his wife Colleen of Cornwall, Elizabeth Allen and her husband Sean of Salisbury Mills and Matthew J. Malvey and his wife Dipa of Carlsbad, California. He was the proud grandfather to Sara, James and Frank Malvey; Sean, Daniel and Samantha Malvey; Sean, Connor and Ryan Allen; and Mila and Liam Malvey.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, located at 145 Benkard Ave., Newburgh. The Rev. William Damroth will officiate.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in James’ name may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church Food Bank, 145 Benkard Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550.
