Elwood J. Schuck

January 30, 1935-December 5, 2017
Elwood J. Schuck of Chester, the son of Elwood and Lucille Schuck, was born Jan. 30, 1935, in Hempstead.
A Long Island fisherman at heart, Woody was a jack of all trades. He faced every challenge that life threw at him head on; only one defeating him: his third and final bout with cancer.
Woody left us with his family by his side.
Woody received his Bachelor of Science degree from Hofstra University, followed by three years in the Marines, leaving as a commissioned First Lieutenant.
He then attended Columbia University where he earned his Master of Arts.
This led to a 25-year career of teaching art at Suffern High School. During his teaching career, Woody earned his Master of Fine Arts from New Paltz.
He took his love of excavation to the next level when he retired from teaching and started his own excavating business: E.J. Schuck Construction Corp., which he proudly ran with his two sons.
Woody led a very active busy life. If he wasn’t out chopping wood, he may have been designing and welding large steel sculptures.
Several of his sculptures were on display at Storm King Art Center, Mount Aramah Exhibition and the Art Expo in New York City.
Woody designed and fabricated several highly efficient and attractive wood stoves for family members.
He was an avid skeet shooter, having been N.Y.S. Senior champion in 1998, as well as winning many local tournaments for more than 50 years.
Although, he loved many things, nothing was more loved than his family.
Woody is survived by his wife, Marthanne Schuck, and his three adored children: Christopher J. Schuck and his wife, Cynthia, Jeremy J. Schuck and his wife, Lisa, and Ashley Schuck-Connington and her husband, Tim. He is also survived by his beautiful grandchildren: Arianna, Nicholas, Paige, Tanner, Kaitlynn and Ryan.
This Long Island fisherman will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
 Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe.
Interment will follow in Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
