Charles P. 'Butch' Starkey

Charles Paul Starkey of Mountainville, affectionately known as “Butch” passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. He was 73 years old.
The son of James and Margaret Blasco Starkey, he was born Aug. 12, 1944, in Suffern.
Butch was a mechanic with IBEW Local #825 and Local #1249. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during Vietnam.
He also was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and a life member of the N.R.A.
For many years, Butch also owned a gas station with his brother Bob in Spring Valley.
Survivors include his daughter Jennifer Starkey of Washingtonville; his son Kevin Starkey of Washingtonville; his granddaughter Lana Grace Starkey; his former wife Linda Starkey; his brothers: James Starkey and his wife Barbara of Suffern and Richard Starkey and his wife Marlene of Jacksonville, Fla.; his sisters: Lucille Whittaker and her husband Thomas of Jarrettsville, Md., and Diane Roper of Chester; and many nieces and nephews.
Butch was predeceased by his brother Robert Starkey and his sister Betty Schmidt.
He was a beloved, reliable friend to many and was always willing to help others. He was the first one to show up when something went wrong and always figured out how to fix it.
He was quick with a joke and always made people laugh. He most enjoyed spending time being silly with his granddaughter, sitting and talking with friends and his siblings and being with his children. He was a great teacher to his children, his friends and his many nieces and nephews. He loved his lunches with his baby sister Diane who was his closest confidant.
Butch, who was born at Good Samaritan Hospital, received his nickname from the nurses as he was the biggest baby born there, was loved by many and will forever be missed.
Visitation was held Dec. 20 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home in Monroe.
A Funeral Service was held Dec. 21 at Reformed Church of West New Hempstead in Spring Valley.
Interment followed in Brick Church Cemetery in Spring Valley.
