Bernice J. Salcedo
Bernice J. Salcedo of Manhattan and South Blooming Grove passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012, at her home in Manhattan. She was 71.
Daughter of Joseph P. Cichetti and Mary J. Weldon Cichetti, she was born June 16, 1940, in Queens.
Bernice attended Catholic grammar and high school in Queens and Brooklyn. She received a B.S. and M.S. in mathematics from Queens College and New York University respectively and was a member and officer of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority.
Her professional career began at the Sperry Gyroscope Company in Long Island, but she spent most of her career as a systems analyst with the Control Data Corporation, requiring her to spend much time in Minneapolis, Minn. She and her husband, Alfonso, have lived all of their time together in Manhattans Midtown East Side, but also have a home in South Blooming Grove.
Bernice is survived by her husband Alfonso E. Salcedo; her sister, Sheila Beirne and her husband Gerard of Gardner; her niece and goddaughter Shaina Beirne; niece Lynn Hayes; and nephew Paul Marchese.
She was predeceased by her sister Kathleen Marchese and her nephew Anthony Marchese.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, at St. Anastasia Shrine Church, North Main Street, Harriman. Interment will follow in St. Anastasia Cemetery in Harriman.
