Albert Kendrick

Albert Kendrick of Monroe, an owner and retired manager of Kendrick Drilling, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Schevier Pavilion in Warwick. He was 87 and had been a resident of the area for 42 years.

The son of Albert and Gertrude Kendrick, he was born in Liverpool, England.

Albert served in the English Royal Navy on a mine sweeper during World War II. He was stationed for a time in Coney Island in Brooklyn, where he met Ann D’Arcy, his wife of 62 years.

Albert worked as a superintendent for Raymond International, which was a leader in the worldwide engineering and construction industry as a superintendent. Albert was asked to extensively travel all over the world on their behalf. He would organize, perform and supervisor various large scale projects such as pipelines for water, oil, gas and petrochemical industries, pipeline rehabilitation and industrial and heavy construction.

Albert moved his family from Brooklyn to Orange County 42 years ago. He and his family started Kendrick Drilling, Inc. in Chester in 1978, where he worked as manager until he was 78.

His family’s statement, which was written by his granddaughter the evening he died, reads: “God is lucky to meet a great man this evening. Even though I will miss you dearly, I know that he is in a good place surrounded by others that love him, especially my grandmother! I will keep all the memories close to my heart and be thankful for having you around for 37 years! I love you very much, Gramps! Words cannot describe what a wonderful man he was.

“He will be sorely missed as the exceptional gentleman he was his entire life. He was most happy to be around his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren where a smile always came to his face He was an inspiration to his family, workers and friends. He truly will always be with us.”

Albert was pre-deceased by his wife Ann Kendrick.

Survivors include their son Thomas and his wife Carolyn. Albert’s grandchildren Christine Herber and her husband Doug, Karen Kropp and her husband Chris and Scott Kendrick also survive him, as well as his great grandchildren Riley and Briggs Herber and Kyla and Tyler Kropp.

He is also survived by his brother Terence Kendrick and his wife Janice, sister-in-law Jean Chambers and her husband Travis, nephews Todd Kendrick and his wife Jeannie, Greg Kendrick and his wife Lisa, Travis Chambers and his wife Terri and Colin Chambers, his niece Heather Chambers ,and grandnephews and grandnieces.

He was predeceased by his niece Lisa Kendrick, McLeod and his brother Cyril Kendrick.

Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 19, from noon to 2 p.m. at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., 139 Stage Road, Monroe. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
