    James A. Lagarde Sr. of Goshen died on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, surrounded by his family and friends, after a battle with cancer. He was 64.

    Son of Hector and Anna (Buvalik) Lagarde, he was born May 5, 1947, in New York, N.Y.

    He was for 32 years a New York State corrections officer; worked 27 years for the department of Mental Health and was a volunteer Com-peer through Mental Health NCAA swimming official; an ASA Umpire; and a Eucharist minister at St. John the Evangelist Church in Goshen.

    Survivors include his wife, Carole A. Lagarde at home; children, Tara Aiken (Michael) of Charlotte, N.C., James Lagarde Jr. (Tara) of Monroe, Renee Lagarde (Michael) of Goshen, and Christopher Lagarde (Shana) of Goshen; brother, Edward Lagarde (Evelyn) of Liberty, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Chelsea, Rylea, and MacKenzea of Charlotte, N.C.; Colin, Trevor, and Madison of Monroe; Katelynn, Ryan, and Andrew of Goshen; and several nieces and nephews.

    Visitation was held Feb. 14 at Donovan Funeral Home, Goshen. A Mass of Christian burial was held Feb. 15 at St. John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Goshen. Burial followed in St. John's Cemetery, Goshen.
