Basile completes basic training

    MONROE — Army National Guard Pvt. Frank J. Basile of Monroe has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, he studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises. Basile is a 2004 graduate of Washingtonville High School. Tierney returns home from Afghanistan WARWICK — Army Maj. Brian P. Tierney, the son of Warwick resident Kathleen Tierney, is returning to the U.S. Military Academy, West Point after being deployed to Afghanistan serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Tierney has served in the military for 13 years. He graduated in 1993 from Monroe-Woodbury High School, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1997 from the University of Notre Dame, Ind. Cohen gets NationAL Guard promotion Harriman — David Cohen of Harriman, who is serving with the New York Army National Guard at its Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3-142d Aviation, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant. Army National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential.
