Tuxedo Park -- George F. Baker seniors Bromley Givens and Casey Juance were named scholar-athletes by the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association.
Each year, this honor is awarded to high school seniors “who have distinguished themselves in the classroom and in the athletic arena.” Selection criteria include ranking in the top 20 percent of the class, participation in at least one varsity sport, being an above-average athlete, and demonstrating outstanding citizenship.
Bromley joined the GFB cross-country team this year and quickly became an essential part of its success. Coach Bill Brunner said Bromley was a consistent presence at every practice and fully embraced his role as team captain, setting a standard his teammates were eager to follow. “Bromley gave 100 percent every day. I’ve always said I wish I had an entire team of Bromleys — our success would be off the charts.”
Varsity volleyball coach Michelle Hines described Casey as a standout in the Tuxedo athletic community, noting her involvement in volleyball, basketball, softball, wrestling and cross-country during her time at George F. Baker. Hines highlighted Casey’s key role in leading the volleyball team to back-to-back state Final Four appearances, where she excelled as both a libero and setter. This year, Casey earned Section 9 Class D All-Star recognition and was named to the fifth team All-State. “Casey is a passionate, determined athlete who pushes herself and her teammates to perform at the highest level. She’s intense, encouraging and a joy to coach.”
