On a cool Saturday morning, the Crusader softball team started their 2022 season hosting the Wizards of Washingtonville. Head Coach Penny Roberts and Assistant Elaine Schellbergh have the team ready to compete for the Section 9 title again this year with a very strong roster of veteran players. The Crusaders got off to a 4-run lead in the first inning and never looked back as they went on to a 12-0 triumph.

The Crusaders offense was led by Danielle Ryan, who had 3 hits, scored 2 runs and stole 2 bases. Emma Lawson went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI’s, and Kelsey O’Brien had 2 hits with a triple and 2 RBI’s. On the mound, senior Brianna Roberts picked up just where she left off last year as one of the dominant pitchers in Section 9. Roberts threw a 1- hit shutout, while striking out 13 Wizard batters, to pick up the victory for the Crusaders.

The Crusaders opening day victory brings their record to 1-0 on the season. Their next game will be on Monday afternoon, when they host the Wildcats of Warwick.
