College Admissions Expert Elizabeth Levine: Pretigious Institutions

| 22 May 2014 | 09:21

In light of all the college admissions decisions having been sent for those entering the freshman class Fall 2014, I've attached a link to a video (19 minutes long) of Malcolm Gladwell speaking at a Google conference in regards to a piece in his new book, David and Goliath, where he outlines the phenomenon of why not to attend one of the elite institutions in the US.
We all get so caught up in either attending or wanting our children to attend the most prestigious institution that they are accepted to but what we need to ask ourselves and evaluate is where will they be the most successful.
Take the 19 minutes and watch Mr. Gladwell and know that there are many schools that you/your child can flourish at, some which are not so prestigious but their education will be just as great and the impact on the rest of their lives can even be more profound than if they attended the prestigious school of their choice.
Making the college choice is never easy but there isn't a right or wrong answer but one that is the best fit for the whole person, today and for tomorrow.
