College Admissions Expert Elizabeth Levine: How can you Maximize each and every moment during your campus visit?

Just like you are looking for college success, you want to make sure the college does their part to ensure that their students succeed as well. Researching and asking about the four and six-year graduation rates can give you a good idea of how students fare at the institution. Can you get the degree you want in four years?
One question that doesn't get asked enough is: “What percentage of freshman choose to return for the sophomore year?” This is referred to as retention rate. I always say never judge a college by any one statistic but noting each and seeing what the story tells is important in gathering information to help you make an informed decision.
When you do visit a college, make sure to attend the information session and take an official tour, and ask your guide what their challenges were at the beginning, what are their favorite things about the school and what surprised them when they arrived? Don't be shy, the rest of the group will be glad someone asked and their answer may be enlightening.
