Writers' center plans events

Sleepy Hollow Summer is around the corner and The Hudson Valley Writers’ Center has two events planned for the June calendar. On Sunday, June 5, at 4:30 p.m., the center will present “Water Hyacinth,” by Jeremy J. Kamps, winner of the New Play Reading Series. This is the first reading in a series of three, where the center will present the winning plays selected in its newest initiative. “Water Hyacinth” deals with the universal themes of existence, dispossession, and humanity as seen through the eyes of a former child soldier in war-torn Africa. And on Sunday, June 26, at 4:30 p.m., center’s Readers’ Series celebrates Gay Pride Month with a reading by poet Elaine Sexton and author Erin McHugh. The readings will take place at the center, located in Philipse Manor railroad station, 300 Riverside Drive, in Sleepy Hollow. Admission is $5.
