WOODSTOCK, N.Y. — The upstate New York town that lent its name to the famous 1969 Woodstock concert is hoping to strum up some business with public displays of guitar statues.

Organizers of Woodstock's Volunteers Day say they're planning to display about 30 guitar statues across the Ulster County town, located in the Catskill Park 45 miles south of Albany. Several sculptors are already on board, and local businesses are being sought to sponsor the statues.

The guitar statues will be displayed from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Woodstock holds an annual guitar festival in August.

The statue exhibit is similar to thematic public art displays staged in other upstate New York communities, including the bison sculptures in Buffalo and the horse statues in Saratoga Springs.
