Woodbury Public Library announces January programs for adults

    HIGHLAND MILLS — The Woodbury Public Library will hold the following programs for adults during January:
    “Easy, Fun, Raw” Wellness Cooking program conducted by Professor Johanna Sophia
    Sunday, Jan. 7, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Woodbury Senior Center (adjacent to the Highland Mills Branch of the Library)
    Add more raw food to your family’s diet for your health and for the planet. A 45-minute talk followed by a 45-minute workshop and Q&A by the CEO of Johanna’s Raw Foods PBC. In this talk, Sophia presents simple reasons why people should add more raw foods to their daily diet, and how it can be done deliciously while having fun.
    All ages are welcome; registration is required
    • Path to entrepreneurship – job coaching workshop conducted by Cynthia Marsh-Croll, Women’s Enterprise Development Center
    Thursday, Jan. 11, 6 to 8 p.m.
    Do you have what it takes to be a Successful Entrepreneur? Find out now! Please join us for a FREE program designed to introduce you to small business ownership. Learn about the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur and what it takes to run your own business. Marsh-Croll is the Program Manager and EAP Director of the Mid-Hudson WEDC Office in Poughkeepsie. She presents this workshop throughout the Hudson Valley region and can assist you with your own start-up venture.

    • Meet the author and book signing: Carol Durant
    Saturday, Jan. 13, 2 to 3:30 p.m.
    Carol Durant is a newly minted actor and now adds published poet to her resume. Meet the author and hear her read excerpts from her book, "Whole Phat and Gluten Free Poetry." Durant will speak about her journey to authorship and the road to self-publication. Books will be available for purchase on-site; a book-signing and beverages will follow the lecture and Q&A portion of the program. Patrons may also purchase copies in advance via Amazon, shiptbmbooks.com or obtain this work through NOOK eBook, Kindle, GooglePlay and iTunes.

    Wednesday, Jan. 17, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
    The selection for January,“Blue Manuscript” by Sabiha Al Khemir, is available for check-out at the Highland Mills branch. Stop by for your copy and cozy up with this fascinating read for some relaxation time during the holidays. Interspersed with the testimony of the early medieval calligrapher who created the Blue Manuscript, Sabiha Al Khemir’s subtle, graceful narrative builds into a rich tapestry of love, hope, despair, greed, fear and betrayal.

    Thirty-minute sessions for individuals or couple. Book a private session to address your computer questions. Use your laptop or our WPL public computers (PCs).

    • Winter Wind Chime/Sun Catcher Art Program
    Tuesday, Jan. 23, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
    Add sweet music and sparkle to your home with a hand-crafted work of art! This workshop will be conducted by Anita Baumann, adult services library assistant. All materials will be provided.
    There is a limit of 12 adult patrons; a waiting list has been established.
