Woodbury Public Library announces January adult events and programs

    — The Woodbury Public Library has announced the following programs and events for adults this month:
    Meet the Artist ReceptionSaturday, Jan. 5, noon to 2 p.m.
    Local artist Veronique Jolie has always found joy and balance through creative expression from an early age.
    The visual arts in particular have provided her a unique home for expressing her feelings and fantasies due to its convenient and intimate nature.
    She is largely inspired by images and ideas that she encounters on a daily basis that create lasting emotional effects.
    Watercolor and ink have been primary mediums in her works lately.
    Visit the afternoon reception to meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments.
    You may view the exhibit at the Rushmore Memorial Branch of Woodbury Public Library throughout January.
    Book Discussion ClubThursday, Jan. 10, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
    Humor selections from The New Yorker bring us levity to kick-off 2019.
    Select between Fierce Pajamas or Disquiet.
    Browse the index of the book you choose, and pick out the works that appeal most to you (no need for a cover-to-cover read, unless you feel like doing so).
    Select your favorite piece from the book you've chosen, and be prepared to read it aloud to share with the group at the discussion.
    Either volume may be re-quested online or in-person using your individual RCLS library card (request your copy be delivered to the Highland Mills branch for pick-up).

    Women in Retirement: A Financial Journey (seminar)Sunday, Jan. 13, 2 p.m. at the Woodbury Senior Center (adjacent to the Highland Mills branch of the library).
    For women of any age and their family members.
    Andrea Brown of Voya Financial Advisors, Inc. will share tools and tips to help you make sound financial decisions to ensure you have funds to carry you through the post-working years of your life through money management strategies, budget planning, asset management and lifestyle evaluation techniques.
    Light refreshments will be served.

    WPL Movie Matinee: 'Auntie Mame'Sunday, Jan. 20, 2 p.m. at the Woodbury Senior Center (adjacent to the Highland Mills branch of the library).
    Bring your family to the screening of this laugh-out-loud film, presented by The Haunted Barn Museum/Movies To Go.
    This 1958, non-musical version of the movie features Rosalind Russell and a stellar cast.
    Come see it for the first time or rekindle your love of this zany story of family and foibles. Appropriate for ages 8 and up.
    Light movie snacks will be available.
