West Point will host Music Recital

    WEST POINT-The United States Military Academy Band Chamber Music Recital Series continues Sunday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m. in the West Point Jewish Chapel. Staff Sergeant Richard Johnson will present a recital program of jazz compositions by Kenny Wheeler. Johnson is a trumpet player in the Academy Band's Jazz Knights. Pianist Kris Davis, percussionist Jeff Davis, bassist Eivind Opsvik, and saxophonist Jason Rigby will join Johnson for this performance. The concert is free. Jazz trumpeter Kenny Wheeler composed all of the works performed on this recital. His contributions to music span more than five decades and encompass a broad range of styles within the jazz genre. Johnson selected six pieces for performance from the latter half of Wheeler's career: Please allow extra travel time for the 100 percent vehicle and photo I.D. inspection at Stony Lonesome and Thayer gates.
