WARWICK-Just in time for New Year's resolutions, Warwick's Albert Wisner Public Library offers "Five Secrets to Permanent Weight Loss" at 7 p.m. on Jan. 12. Maryann McQuillan, New York State licensed acupuncturist, will discuss how the body works, why diets don't work, and how medications slow down metabolism. She has been practicing for six years in Orange County and specializes in women's health issues. To keep the mind in shape as well, at 2 p.m. on Jan. 29, the library will host a book discussion of Wallace Stegner's "Angle of Repose," a 1971 Pulitzer Prize winner. The book was selected by the editorial board of the Modern Library as one of the hundred best novels of the twentieth century. Set in many areas of the American West, "Angle of Repose" is a story of discovery—personal, historical, and geographical—loosely based on the life of western writer and illustrator Mary Hallock Foote. Irene and Jerry Schacher will lead the discussion. The programs are open to residents of the Warwick Valley School District. Registration is require
