Birds, snakes, reptiles and lessons about environmental awareness this Sunday Vernon N.J. — Heaven Hill Farm will host the Vernon Earth Fest 2011 on Sunday, May 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. “We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate a green environment and give thanks to Mother Nature while promoting educational fun, than to celebrate Earth Day on a locally owned 150 acre farm,” said Martin Theobald, owner of Heaven Hill Farm. Presenters include: Delaware Raptor Center and its “Birds Of Prey”; Mad Science; Snakes and Scales featuring “Sharks Eye View” and “Creatures From Around The Earth”; Richard Reiter with his interactive drum circles; and Rizzo’s Reptile Discovery. This free community wide event highlights shows and educational programs to promote environmental awareness, eco-tourism and agritainment in Vernon. Area businesses and civic groups will showcase crafts, retail items, food and games. There will also be hayrides along country trails and panning for gemstones at the gem mining sluice. Earth Fest is sponsored by Vernon Chamber Charities, Northern New Jersey’s largest environmental education event featuring dozens of vendors and entertainers whose products and messages are centered around the environment and keeping things green.
