Trombonist to perform with West Point bands

West Point — The United States Military Academy Concert Band and Jazz Knights will present a joint concert featuring world renowned trombonist Jim Pugh at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14 in the Eisenhower Hall Theatre at West Point. The Concert Band, under the direction of Colonel Thomas Rotondi ,Jr., will perform works by Aaron Copland and James Barnes and will feature Jim Pugh in a concerto that he composed himself. The Jazz Knights, under the direction of Chief Warrant Officer Douglas Hammond, will perform a number of big band jazz compositions featuring Jim Pugh as soloist. Trombonist Jim Pugh has enjoyed a distinguished career as a performer, educator, and composer. He has performed and recorded with such diverse artists as Woody Herman, Chick Corea, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, André Previn and Yo-Yo Ma. He has written music for national commercial advertising campaigns, and his Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra received its New York premiere with the New York Philharmonic.
