SUNY Orange’s Fall Film Series will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. in Harriman Hall with the 1985 film “Smooth Talk” by Joyce Chopra, who won the Grand Jury Prize for directing in the dramatic category at the Sundance Film Festival in 1986. Based on the short story, “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been,” by Joyce Carol Oates, this film chronicles the sexual awakening in the Northern California suburbs of Connie, a 15-year-old girl. Her experimentations begin to get out of hand when the mysterious Arnold Friend, played by Treat Williams, takes an interest in her. General admission is $2. Prior to the start of the screening, an introduction will be given by Professor Geoffrey Platt of the English Department. He will also lead a discussion of the film afterwards.
